Effective October 1, 2011
Allows a student to use the Post-9/11 GI Bill for -
Flight Training: Per academic year, pays the actual net costs for in-state tuition and fees assessed by the school or $10,000, whichever is less.
How Much Does The VA Pay for the GI Bill?
The VA will reimburse 60% of flight training; pre and post flight briefings and ground school lessons to an eligible Service Member for any FAA approved Part 141 courses of instruction above the Private Pilot rating. Each month Heliventures will certify your training and report it to the VA. The VA will then send you a reimbursement check for 60% of that certified training.
Applying for Benefits
You can apply for benefits online by using the VETERANS ONLINE APPLICATION (VONAPP). To be eligible for GI Bill benefits you must hold a Private Pilot certificate or complete a Private Pilot course of instruction at your own expense. The VA does not acknowledge the Private Pilot rating as a career based rating and will not approve you for helicopter training school benefits until enrolled in a Commercial Pilot course of instruction.
